Sceletium Tortuosum or “Kanna” has been used from the earliest times of mankind and has been ever since very popular. This plant was discovered by the indigenous people of southern Africa and was used as mood-changing herb. In the past this plant was traditionally dried under the sun and sliced for chewing into small pieces. Today modern pharmacy has developed user-friendly products like gel-caps, teas and tinctures.
In modern medicine kanna is often used as organic treatment for mental health concerns like depressions or as a calmative for stomachage and different disorders. The main active substances in this herb are mesembrine-, tortuosamine-, mesembrenol- and mesembrenone-alkaloids which are quite familiar to serotonin.
